Engineering charity launches new online wellbeing tool

Engineering charity Foothold has unveiled a new online mental health product for professionals and their families.
Its Mental Health Check-In tool provides a personalised mental health report, tailored advice and support accessible online, intended to aid users’ mental and physical as well as financial wellbeing.
CEO Jane Petit said: “At Foothold, our ambition is to improve the wellbeing of engineers and their families, wherever they are.
“Our Mental Health Check-In is the latest step. By giving engineers and their family members access to a quick and easy-to-use tool to understand and improve their mental health, we aim to empower even more people in our community to live well and thrive.”
Last year a survey by Hays revealed that nearly nine in 10 engineers surveyed said they experience some degree of stress from their job, while four in 10 say they are struggling mentally due to the demands of their role.
The product delivers clinically validated questions about emotions including worry, anxiety and low mood. Users receive a personal mental health score based on their answers, alongside expert tailored recommendations and advice on where they can access relevant support.
A copy of the report can also be downloaded for use in discussions with doctors, HR teams or family. However, users are not asked to enter identifying details, to ensure strict confidentiality regarding medical and other personal information.
Foothold offers a range of digital support services free to use for engineers and their families, including a monthly webinar on wellbeing or personal finance, a Wellbeing Hub as well as the Differently Wired Hub for neurodiverse engineers.
