Pilot unit for water treatment
22 Nov 2004
Alfa Laval's new pilot membrane technology unit allows water treatment companies to check out spiral and plate-and-frame membranes in their laboratories before committing to a full-scale system.
The self-contained module incorporates both flat sheet and spiral wound membranes that can be used for selective flat membrane screenings, pilot-scale spiral tests and low-scale production using microfiltration and ultrafiltration.
The flat sheet has a membrane area of 1m2, while the 3.8in spiral element has a membrane area of up to 7m2 and can be used at pH values between 1 and 3, and at pressures up to 8bar.
As well as the membranes, the unit contains all the necessary ancilliary equipment: pump, filter, heat exchanger, tanks and valves.
