In the mix
28 May 2004
The latest multi-component mixing head from Krauss-Maffei enables pigments to be injected straight into a mixing chamber during the production of polyurethane products.
Until now, to produce mouldings in different colours, pigments had to be mixed with Polyol before processing commenced.
And once the colour had been mixed-in, the process could not be reversed. So the pigmented material had to be used up by producing mouldings of that particular hue only.
With its new multi-component mixing head, dubbed the MK-5/8-2K+2, pigment is only added to the blend of Polyol and Isocyanate in the mixing chamber. This means only the amount of blend that needs to be processed has to be pigmented.
The mixing head is equipped with four nozzles. Two are used for injecting the polyurethane components into the mixing chamber. The other two are used for two different colours.
The German outfit says that its new mixing head is particularly suitable for applications such as skins for armrests and seat covers, shoe-soles and also foot mats with a moulded-on ployurethane surround.
