Nanocomposite targets moulders
13 Jan 2004
Noble Polymers, a Grand Rapids, MI-based supplier of specialised plastic compounds and resins has launched Forte, a proprietary nanocomposite material engineered to serve as a greener, more cost-effective substitute for traditional materials such as glass-filled polypropylene.
Glass-filled polypropylene often causes problems during processing, such as difficulty with tooling, visual defects and warping. Forte is a polypropylene-based nano-composite that was developed as a replacement for the glass-filled polypropylene, which improves the strength and overall weight of the finished part, as well as lowering its cost.
Noble said it spent two years developing the new material in conjunction with Grand Rapids, MI-based injection moulder Cascade Engineering.
The nano-composite, which is available in two varieties - <a href=' http://www.noblepolymers.com/prod/35cpp091.htm'> 35CPP091</a> and <a href='http://www.noblepolymers.com/prod/18cpp091.htm'> 18CPP091</a> - will be commercially available to plastic moulders this month.
PDF data sheets on both materials can be downloaded from the manufacturers web site.
