Belt benefit for drying press
15 Jan 2000
A Condebelt paper and board drying press, the second of its kind, has been ordered by South Korean company, Dong II.
The success of this drying process, where a wet web is fed between two steel belts and subjected to high presssure and temperature, is said to rely on the quality of the steel belt.
The machine, produced by Valmet Corporation Board Machines, incorporates three 1650 SM steel belts, made by Sandvik. There is a top, a bottom and a spare, and each belt measures 4400x1.2x 57300mm, and operates at a speed of 11m/s.
The first system was installed at the Enso factory in Pankakoski, Finland, two years ago, and has completed two million bending cycles over the drums, the equivalent of 53,000km.
The Condebelt process was first patented in 1978, with Sandvik getting involved in the late 1980s.
