Take off for rotary lobe pumps
15 Jan 2000
JP Pumps, part of the Swedish manufacturer Johnson Pump International, has started production of its new TopWing series of rotary lobe pumps. Developed to meet increasingly stringent hygiene and quality demands of process industries such as food and pharmaceuticals, the pumps can handle capacities up to 156m3/h across four ranges.
Following last year's introduction of the company's TopLobe series, the TopWing models boast improvements in many areas. For example, a self-draining function has been added to simplify cleaning, while more wet parts are now in stainless steel. More fundamentally, the rotor blades are now of a bi-wing design, offering a lower shearing action than the earlier tri-lobe models.
The new pumps also boast improved maintenance requirements. For example, easier access to the seal area has made it possible to change seals in ten minutes. As JP's project manager Jan Wikborg explains: `If you have a lot of rotary lobe pumps and it takes an hour to check each one, that is a big job; but not any more.'
According to managing director Peter Staddon, `TopWing goes a step further to improve hygiene and quality.'
* Last month Staddon was named `Personality of the Year' at the Pump & Systems '99 exhibition awards dinner in Telford.
