Blessed are the cheesemakers
20 Dec 2002
The world's three largest makers of cheesemaking vats - Wincanton in the UK, Denmark's Damrow and Scherping of the US - are to merge.
Based in Dorset, the new company will operate under the banner of Carlisle Process Systems. The move follows the acquisition by Carlisle - part of the US trading giant Carlisle Companies - of Wincanton, the UK dairy processing specialist, earlier this year.
'It is an alliance which, as far as cheese producers are concerned, is really made in heaven,' comments general manager Charles Todd. 'The group is now able to offer customers the best of all possible world with an extensive high quality product line-up which includes the largest range of cheese vats available anywhere.'
The product line includes Wincanton Tower and Wincanton Vat cutting blades, which the company can retrofit to other manufacturers' vats; Double O and finishing vats from Damrow, along with the company's automated machinery for making feta cheese, cottage cheese and pasta filata; and the Scherping 1.5tonne/hr Hi-Flo tower and the low-fat-loss HCV tank.
