Loop control advance
12 Jun 2000
Eurotherm claims that for its size its new multi-loop process controller is the most advanced on the market. The latest addition to the Series 2000 family is the model 2704. It is a high accuracy, high stability instrument designed for demanding conditions such as in furnace and kiln control, environmental chambers and batch production in the chemical, brewing and pharmaceutical industries.
The instrument incorporates a self correcting input circuit to maintain calibration accuracy. The key to its accuracy is an advanced control algorithm giving virtually `straight line' control. Automatic tuning simplifies the commissioning procedure for calculating the optimum PID and cutback values for each loop.
Unusually, direct measurement of non-linear Pirani and Penning gauges is supported by the 2704 with vacuum being displayed using notation either in mB, Torr or Pascals. Up to three gauges can be connected and the instrument provides six setpoint outputs which can be assigned to any gauge.
The controller features a 120 x 160 pixel electroluminescent display on which all process information is displayed with an option for trending to view both current and historical data.
