Tiles make the daily grind
7 Apr 2000
Enough tiles to cover two football pitches a day should soon start pouring out of British Ceramic Tile, following the Devon-based company's £1million investment in grinding, pumping and classification plant from Svedala.
BCT's tiles are made from Comite, a by-product of Devon and Cornwall's china clay production, which is denser, more stable, stronger and more energy efficient than common alternatives.
Comite tile production involves the closed circuit grinding of Devonian limestone with goonvean and rostowrack minerals to a desired particle size. The raw material is then delivered as a slurry and combined with clay to produce the tile body which is then dried and pressed to form the tiles.
