The latest CB1010 amplifier module from HBM expands the capabilities of the CANHEAD family by enabling the system to accept inputs from strain gage full and half bridges and DC voltages.
CANHEAD is a system of distributed amplifier modules that are installed close to the measuring points. Each module provides ten measurement channels and uses a common fieldbus cable for transmitting measurement signals to reduce costs. For example, up to 120 measuring points can be connected to the master using a single fieldbus cable and giving savings of up to 90% in wiring effort and costs compared with alternative methods.
The CB1010 amplifier module ensures insensitivity to noise by using a 600 Hz carrier frequency to supply the strain gages. The module also features a separate analog-to-digital converter for each measurement channel.
Using the CB1010 enables CANHEAD to solve specific problems in industrial measurement and data acquisition. The strain-gage full bridge version, for example, enables force, weight, torque, and strain transducers to be used. The CB1010 adds flexibility to measurement tasks because the different channels of a module can be connected using half or full bridge and voltage measurement circuit versions simultaneously.
CANHEAD is designed for structural tests and similar tasks with medium and large channel counts. It is available with a variety of different permanently-wired base modules. The base modules are supplemented by a wide range of common amplifier modules that can easily be plugged into the base modules or removed.
CANHEAD allows any type of module to be mixed and uses HBM’s MGCplus as the communication master along with HBM software, data acquisition and control as part of an integrated system. A single MGCplus communication master controls up to 240 measurement channels while cascading in a complete system with several masters allows channel counts of any size to be used.
By using TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) transducers in conjunction with the CANHEAD system, users can take measurement with the correct units and scaling immediately; the amplifier does not need to be configured manually.
