Spirax Sarco

Tarmac Topblock is moving closer to hitting its key sustainability target of a 5% reduction in energy by 2010 thanks to a Spirax Sarco Engineered System for recovering heat from waste steam. Aircrete blocks at Tarmac’s Alfreton factory are cured in a bank of eight autoclaves fed by steam at 12 bar. Instead of venting the steam into the atmosphere, the Spirax system feeds it through a heat exchanger to pre-heat the site’s boiler feed water. The system includes a buffer storage tank between the heat exchanger and the boiler feed tank.
