Adura Technologies has appointed Jack Bolick,former president of Honeywell Process Solutions, as its new CEO. He replaces Adura co-founder Zach Gentry, who will become its chief strategy officer. Gentry said: "Jack has demonstrated these attributes throughout his career, most recently at Honeywell where he grew HPS from $1.5bn to $3bn in just six years." Adura, which applies low-power wireless mesh networking to the lighting market, was founded in 2004 under the auspices of research grants provided by the California Energy Commission¹s Public Interest Energy Research grant programme. In 2008, Adura raised $5m in a Series A venture round from Claremont Creek Ventures and VantagePoint Venture Partners.
Artesis, a supplier of intelligent predictive maintenance solutions, has appointed Dr Robert Pietruszkiewicz as the company’s
Yorkshire-based NSF Controls has expanded the sales team for its electro magnetic components and solenoid switches. Nev Bettney joins the Keighley manufacturer as sales co-ordinator and Jodie Grant as sales assistant. Bettney previously spent 16 years working for Japanese company Pioneer Technology. He has extensive experience of working with large blue chip companies such as Sony, JVC and Sanyo. Grant joins from a previous position of field sales.
Pearson Harper, an engineering information management company based on Teesside has appointed Keith Joseph as business development manager. Joseph has extensive engineering experience and has worked within the oil & gas, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, water, sewage and nuclear sectors. He progressed through an accredited engineering apprenticeship and mechanical engineering degree during his 11 years at Costain Engineering, whilst simultaneously achieving instrument engineer status. He went on to develop his expertise over the next 13 years at Energy Solutions International and Atmos International - both software companies specialising in pipeline management systems
UK business minister Pat McFadden has announced the appointment of Philip Sturrock to the Industrial Development Advisory Board (IDAB). Sturrock has been managing director of publishers Pitman Books Ltd and Routledge & Kegan Paul plc, as well as chairman and CEO of Cassell plc and The Continuum International Publishing Group Ltd. He holds chairman and non-executive positions in both private and public sector organisations.IDAB provides advice to government on proposals to provide selective financial assistance to industry.
Sontay, a supplier of control peripheral products, has promoted Alan Braybrook to the board position of sales & marketing director. Moving from his previous post as sales manager, he will be responsible for the continued success of the company’s commercial team, supported by promotional campaigns, which together have delivered a strong sales performance over recent years.
3M has appointed four new members to the marketing team for its Industrial Tapes and Adhesives Division. Faye Wilson returns to the division as business development manager for Rite-Lok products following an assignment focusing on brand building and lead generation for 3M’s Construction Division. Faye has been with 3M since joining the Industrial Tapes & Adhesives division in a sales role before moving into product management. Marketing executive Imran Idrees joined 3M in 2006 on a graduate programme, after completing an MEng (Hons) in aerospace engineering at Bath University. Since then he has worked in various divisions and functions including 3M Health Care and Outsource Manufacturing, and joins the Industrial Tapes & Adhesives team with responsibility for adhesives. His most recent role was at the European Occupational Health & Environmental Safety Laboratory where he was a product development engineer. John Fyall rejoins 3M as a graduate marketer having completed a marketing placement within 3M Health Care as a student at Oxford Brookes University, where he gained a BA (Hons) degree in business management. Finally, Kirsty Horsfall will be with 3M on a year-long placement as part of her marketing degree at Bournemouth University. As well as marketing projects, Kirsty will be undertaking product management for speciality single-sided tapes.

Batoyle Freedom Group has recently appointed Caroline Slinn as an additional development chemist for the specialist lubricant divisions. Winner of the 2008 UK Lubricants Association’s (UKLA) ‘Young Employee of the Year’ award, Slinn has spent over 6 years in the industrial sector working on lubricant formulation and development. She will be responsible for new product developments and expanding the company’s existing ranges of specialist lubricants.
Chloe Richards has become a young ambassador to one of the regional boards of the National Skills Academy Process Industries - one of five young ambassadors being recruited to the Academy’s boards in key process industries hotspots around the UK.. Her role on the Academy’s West Midlands Regional Skills Board is to give youngsters a voice on careers in the region’s polymer, chemical and pharmaceutical companies, which employ 28,000 people in the region. Richards is a building services engineer at CEL International in Coventry, which provides specialist services to the process industries and numbers Dow Corning, PolymerLatex and GSK on its client list. She has also taken on roles as an ambassador for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network (STEMNET), as well as the Building Services Sector Skills Council, and was recently nominated for the European Construction Institute) Young Professional of the Year award.
GAMBICA, the association for instrumentation, control, automation and laboratory technology, has announced the appointment of John Bailey, founder and now chairman of the Pantek Group of Companies as its president for the next two years. He takes over from Rod Taylor, chairman, Seaward Group. Within the Pantek Group, GAMBICA member SolutionsPT is focused on industrial automation solutions through the distribution and support of the Wonderware software range of products, engineering services and software development. SolutionsPT is based in the North West of England and has interests in the UK, Eire & the Czech Republic.
Sheffield Forgemasters International Ltd has appointed a new group environment manager Vicky Hinchcliffe, who will be responsible for environmental issues and environmental improvements across its whole site. Vicky joins the company having previously worked for Yorkshire Water for five years in the environment team, with the last two years of her tenure spent in pollution prevention. She holds a degree in environmental management from University of Manchester
Instrumentation specialist Ashtead Technology has announced two new appointments within its recently created instrument division. Alan Hasson has replaced James Carlyle as manager of the company's European head office and Carlyle has been promoted to the newly created world-wide role of business development manager. The instrument division supplies equipment into the test and measurement market, predominantly specialising in rentals. Hasson has spent most of his career in the instrumentation sector, including three years at Ashtead Technology. Carlyle is also a long-standing instrumentation professional and has been responsible for the company's European instrument division since 2004.
Invensys Operations Management has appointed Teemu Tunkelo as president for its Europe/Russia/Africa (EURA) region. Tunkelo has a strong background in a variety of software and systems integration roles for top-tier companies, including Nokia, Compaq, Siemens and, most recently, ABB. At ABB he held several global senior management positions in the automation business, including responsibilities for certain customer segments and global responsibility for ABB's automation platform products and platform software. In this last role, Tunkelo led ABB's global control systems, analytical and force measurement businesses, providing products, systems and services to process industries customers worldwide through direct and indirect sales channels.

Foster Wheeler AG has appointed Troy Roder, as chairman and CEO of Foster Wheeler Energy Ltd (FWEL), based in Reading,UK, with effect from 1 Jan, 2010. Roder, who is currently president and CEO of Foster Wheeler USA Corp., based in Houston, Texas, replaces Michael Beaumont, who is to retire as chairman and CEO of FWEL. Roder joined Foster Wheeler in 1989 and subsequently assumed positions of increasing responsibility in E&C, working on chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, refinery and power projects, in supervisory, management and engineering roles. In 1997, he joined the Houston office of FWUSA and was named President and CEO there in 2004. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from DePaul University.
Dr. Marijn Dekkers, currently president and CEO of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., is to succeed Werner Wenning as CEO of Bayer AG from 1 Oct. 2010. Dekkers will join the Bayer management board on 1 Jan, 2010. In a transition phase he will also serve as CEO of Bayer HealthCare. Dekkers started his career in research at General Electric bercoming head of polymer materials research in the US and then managing various other polymers units at GE before moving to AlliedSignal (subsequently Honeywell International Inc.). In 2000, Dekkers became chief operating officer at Thermo Electron Corp. becoming its CEO in 2002. In his role as CEO he initiated the purchase in 2006 of Fisher Scientific. Two years ago, Dekkers was also elected to the board of biotech company Biogen Idec.
HIMA has appointed Thomas Hinzmann as its new executive vice president, sales process automation and service, to manage global sales activities. Hinzmann, with degrees in electrical engineering and business, has extensive experience in sales. Previously, he worked as director of sales Rosemount Europe for Emerson Process Management. He will assume the duties of Dr. Hans-Jörg Kmiecik, who becomes vice president, global project pursuit, and will be responsible for the acquisition of major projects.
Dr Sebastian Proctor, formerly chief process engineer and head of process engineering capability at Sellafield Ltd, has joined nuclear services company VT Group as head of engineering and technology. Proctor joins VT following 12 years at Sellafield Ltd, where he played a key role in both strategic and project reviews for the new Sellafield management team and led a number of major change projects. He started his career in the nuclear sector as a process engineer with British Nuclear Fuels Engineering Ltd in 1997 and became a senior process engineer in 2001 and chief process engineer three years later. He has worked on a number of high profile projects including Sellafield B38 decommissioning project and the delivery of the baseline integrated waste strategy for Sellafield to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Regulators.
Reading Scientific Services Ltd has appointed Dr Bogdan Dobraszczyk as technical specialist in its physical sciences department. Dobraszczyk brings broad experience of researching and controlling the physical characteristics of a wide range of food ingredients and food products. His work has proved fundamental in developing new process techniques and technologies, and in dictating the textural/structural properties of many foods. An experienced teacher and writer on the physical properties of food, Dobraszczyk has also worked as a consultant to the Food Standards Agency and a number of food industry clients.
Hansatech EMS Ltd UK, which provides bespoke electronic contract manufacturing and assembly services, has appointed Tom Collett as new business development manager. Collett has 35 years' sales engineering experience within the component and EMS industry. Prior to joining Hansatech EMS, he worked at Molex as industry specialist and AVX as applications engineer for Northern Europe.
The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network has appointed Dr Barry Park as its new theme manager for manufacturing processing. Previously the chief operating officer of Oxonica, a UK nanomaterials company, Park brings with him a wealth of commercial experience and a PhD in polymer chemistry. He is also the co-author of over 20 technical papers and an inventor on over 30 patent applications that have led to many internationally granted patents.
Oilennium Ltd, a training company for the oil & gas industry, has appointed Sharron Ganther as trainee instructional designer. Ganther joins from Utec Survey where she was responsible for managing geophysical, geotechnical and environmental offshore surveys and previously worked for Gardline Geosciences. On the publishing side, Ganther was editor of Geotechnical and Geological Science and Technology Products for Elsevier. She has also held project management and scientific roles for BP Minerals International, Seismograph Service Ltd and British Steel Corp. She holds a BSc. (Hons) in geology from the Polytechnic of North London and an MSc in mineral exploration from the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College in London.

Grundfos Pumps has recently undergone an internal restructuring, which included the creation of a new industry, water & waste water team. The new unit combines the group's industrial end-user, water distribution and water utility teams. The team is headed up by director of sales, Andy Shearer who has over 25 years' experience in the industrial and sanitary pump market. Shearer has a strong sales record, technical background and extensive knowledge of the UK pump market.
Adam Nicholas is the new commercial sales representative for Sandvik Materials Technology having spent the last 12 months on the internal sales desk. Since joining the company, Nicholas has become the hydraulic and instrumentation tube champion, promoting these and other tubular products to customers as part of the internal commercial sales team. He joined the company 15 months ago having previously worked in sales as a key account manager for a sportswear manufacturer. Adam has spent time at Sandvik’s headquarters in Sweden, at the production facilities as well as going through the company training system before working on the internal commercial sales desk at Halesowen.
Allan Laing, who led a management buyout that transformed two ailing companies into an award winning, £40m specialities and fine chemicals business in five years, has joined the main board of the National Skills Academy Process Industries. Pentagon chief executive Laing has 35 years’ experience in the chemical sector, graduating from the University of Strathclyde with an honours degree in chemical engineering before starting his career with ICI in 1975. He is also a member of the European Fine Chemicals Group Board within the European Chemical Industry Council, and is chairman of the Agrochemical and Intermediates Manufacturers Europe.
Emerson Process Management announces the appointment of Mark Perry as sales and marketing director for valves and regulators in the UK and Ireland. Perry joins Emerson from Siemens Automation & Drives where he was responsible for the UK manufacturing execution systems and control systems businesses. Perry has been a leading figure in the process control industry and has extensive experience within power, water, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, oil and gas and general process markets. Perry will replace Alan Johnson who has started his new role of key account director Europe for Emerson’s Fisher valves business.
Eoin Leahy has been appointed ABB’s sales manager for drives and motors in the Munster and southern Leinster areas. As an electrical engineer in companies including Project Management Group, Parsons and CEL International, Leahy has worked on a number of electrical design projects, ranging from lighting design to complete electrical supply projects for green field sites, multi-storey building projects in Dubai and process equipment in the food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries in Ireland.
Swagelok Co. has named David Hester as general manager for Swagelok Ltd., its operation on the Isle of Man. Hester joined Swagelok Ltd. as engineering manager in 2006 and has been instrumental in aligning and managing quality and process improvement initiatives. In the last three years, he has also played a critical role in developing the facility’s current manufacturing model while supporting key customer activity. Prior to joining Swagelok, he held engineering leadership positions at a number of companies, including Mars Electronics, Rolls-Royce Aerospace, and Strix Ltd. He is a Chartered Engineer and member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). He holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in mechanical engineering from University of Portsmouth.
Charles Collier has been appointed sales director for the European operations for Bunting Magnetics Co. of Newton, Kansas. He will have dual responsibilities to drive the sales strategy for both Bunting Magnetics and Magnet Applications Ltd (MAL), which Bunting purchased in April 2008 and is based in Berkhamsted, England. Collier brings extensive sales experience to his new role primarily with a manufacturing background. This includes time spent in operational and consultancy positions. In the past, Charles has served as a consultant to MAL.
GEM Ltd, part of Thermal Energy International, has appointed Darren Picken to the position of area sales manager. A qualified mechanical engineer, and with diplomas in technical services and an HNC in mechanical engineering, Picken was previously an area sales engineer with SMC Pneumatics in Teesside, a position he held for three and a half years.

Cressall Resistors has appointed former Cummins systems manager David Cann as engineering manager. Cann started out as an apprentice with Brush Electrical Machines before moving into the company’s drawing office. He stayed with the business for 21 years, progressing to group leader. In 2000 he moved to Newage International (now Cummins Generator Technologies), where he focused more on IT systems and process development.
MWH has appointed Mark Cargill as its new principal electrical engineer specialising in Fieldbus control systems. Based at MWH’s Solihull office he will work primarily on MWH’s projects with Severn Trent Water. A specialist in Fieldbus systems, in particular Profibus, Cargill previously worked for 17 years at Enpure (formerly Purac) mainly on installing water and waste water treatment works for clients including Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water and Astra Zeneca. He has also spent 11 years in the Merchant Navy, progressing to senior electrical officer and then worked in the glass processing industry, prior to moving into the water industry.
Schneider Electric has set up a dedicated drives team within its industry business which will be headed up by the recently appointed Tony Pickering as national drives sales manager. He joined Schneider Electric after moving over from a successful career as senior director, Northern Europe, for Danfoss where he created a robust sales network across the European countries he was responsible for.
MAC Solutions (UK) Ltd has appointed Peter Jefferson as its new general manager. Jefferson, who will focus on managing the day-to-day operations of the company, brings experience from the industrial controls and automation industry, having worked in the sector for more than 17 years. Prior to joining MAC, he was sales manager for 12 years at Contemporary Controls, a provider of industrial networking products. Prior to this, he worked for the BPX Group, having started his professional life as an engineer at the BBC.
John Wood Group PLC has appointed Nigel Pollard as director of engineering excellence. Pollard's experience includes engineering and projects with BP, including activities in Oman, Kazakhstan, East Siberia.
Chris Grime, principal fleet engineer with Lancashire County Council’s Engineering Services department, has taken over as president of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), which represents engineering professionals in the road transport, plant and engineer surveying industries. He takes over the role from Ian Ling, who was the first SOE president to serve two terms.
Hosokawa Micron Group, headquartered in Osaka, Japan, has announced changes to its board and management team. Masuo Hosokawa stands down from the position of CEO of Hosokawa Micron Corp. (HMC) and assumes the position of chairman of HMC. He is succeeded by Kiyomi Miyata who is appointed president, representative director/CEO of HMC. Miyata, who has been with the company for 40 years moves to his new leadership position from that of vice president, representative director/COO of HMC.
ABB Ltd has appointed Mike Crawford to the position of country service manager, UK and Ireland, in addition to his current role of senior vice president for ABB’s Service, Marine and Turbochargers business in the UK. Crawford is based in Aberdeen which is one of several strategic service centres represented geographically across the UK, with management, sales and service personnel. Since joining ABB as a service engineer in 1977, he has held a variety of roles in service, projects and general management, where he has developed and deployed a strong portfolio of service products.
McGill Services, part of the Hertel Defence and Offshore division, has appointed Jon Rokk as its new managing director. He joins McGill from North-East based JCM Group Ltd, where he was MD leading several diverse services companies. He takes over from current McGill MD Craig Rose and will be based at McGill Services’ Billingham office.
Previous to JCM, Rokk worked for Enron Teesside Operations Ltd (ETOL), later acquired by Sembcorp, where he became assistant vice president, responsible for the Fulfilment Services Business and Wilton International Site Development. He has also held positions at Bainbridge International, ICL, Fujitsu and IBM Xyratex.
LMI Technologies Inc. has appointed Mirela Cunjalo as the new product marketing specialist, based at LMI's European office in Heerlen, The Netherlands. Before joining LMI, Cunjalo was with Rockwell Automation located in Delta, British Columbia, Canada where her positions ranged from applications and support engineering to product marketing. She brings to her new role five years of factory automation experience, focusing on HMI products that have the highest market share in North America.
Warrington-based filter manufacturer Croft Engineering Services has appointed Dr Christopher Flinn as technical sales manager. In addition to over 24 years' experience in the industry he achieved a 1st Class BSc (Hons) in pure chemistry at the University of Nottingham in 1982, followed by a PhD in physical chemistry, at the same university. He became a chartered chemist in 1985 and in the same year started his working career. He has worked for a number of filtration and separation companies, responsible for the development of applications covering the use of many types of filters.
Roger Evans, plant director at precision bearing and automotive component manufacturer Schaeffler (UK) Ltd has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, for his services to the Engineering Industry in Wales. As well as managing the day-to-day operations of Schaeffler UK’s manufacturing plant in Llanelli since 2001, Evans has also been instrumental in formulating and driving forward a manufacturing strategy in Wales. He is currently chairman of the Welsh Manufacturing Forum, and has directorships of the Welsh Automotive Forum and of the Wales Management Council. Evans also sits on the Board of Governors for both EEF (Engineering Employers Federation) South West and EEF Wales.
May/June
Emerson Process Management has appointed Mark Dutton as vice president general manager, Daniel Measurement and Control, Europe, based at Emerson’s offices in Stirling, Scotland. Dutton, who joined Emerson in 1999, is a leading figure in the UK process automation industry. He has taken on increasing responsibilities for the company's the UK and Ireland sales organisation, including as general manager, UK and Ireland for the last three years.
Edwin van den Maagdenberg has been appointed vice president and general manager for Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Van den Maagdenberg was formerly regional general manager for Process Solutions in Northern Europe. He replaces Norm Gilsdorf, who was promoted to president of Honeywell Process Solutions. He joined HPS in 1988 and has since held leadership positions in sales, project operations and general management. Van den Maagdenberg, who holds a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, also worked for Vonk Systems as sales manager for Middle East and Africa.
Black & Veatch has appointed Arthur Close as a sales director within the company’s energy business, where he will support business development across the Middle East, India, Europe and Africa. With almost 20 years' experience in the oil and natural gas industry, Close was previously business development manager in Southeast Asia for a major global engineering and construction company. He has also served in global sales, marketing and proposal roles and held business development positions in oil and natural gas, LNG, petrochemical, chemical and oil refining. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Strathclyde University, and completed the MBA program at Henley Management College, both in the UK.
Paul Davis has been appointed as principal pipelines engineer at MWH and will be based at its High Wycombe office. Davis has worked in Australia since 2000 and joins MWH from AECOM Australia. He joins MWH with expertise in the areas of pipeline condition assessment, non-destructive testing, service life prediction and asset management. He is the author of two recently published reports for the American Water Works Association Research Foundation, addressing long-term performance prediction of PVC and polyethylene pipes.
Supplier of compressed air products and process systems, Thorite has appointed Neil Steeden as key account manger. With extensive experience of fluid power systems and applications, he will be based at Thorite’s Leeds sales and service centre. The appointment marks Neil’s return to Thorite, as he was previously employed as a sales engineer from 2000 to 2005. Thorite has also appointed Paul Besley as major accounts manager, based at its Sheffield sales and service sentre. He joins Thorite from SMC Pneumatics
Kim Lehmann has been appointed CEO and president of RESON, a supplier of underwater acoustic systems. Lehmann brings a track record of developing customer focus, growing sales, and expanding business markets from the companies with whom he has served during the last 20 years. Most recently he was president & CEO of Spectronic Denmark, a developer and manufacturer ofsurveillance systems. Prior to this, Lehmann was director of product marketing and communication at Brüel & Kjær Sound & Vibration Measurement A/S.
E2S, a UK manufacturer of audible and visual warning devices for the hazardous area, marine and industrial sectors, has appointed Wolfgang Pfanner to the newly created position of sales manager Central Europe. He has an impressive track record in the electronic and electromechanical components industries, having previously held senior sales positions for leading Japanese and European groups.
Don Braggins, director and founder member of the UK Industrial Vision Association (UKIVA), has been appointed as publicity officer for the UK Consortium for Photonics and Optics (UKCPO). The UKCPO is the lead partner of the Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network and represents the national photonics and optics community, covering manufacturers, researchers, industry, universities and government.
Precision pressings company Brandauer has appointed Peter Clifton to head up the company’s sales and marketing operation. He was previously sales manager at power press manufacturer Aida, where he helped to develop the long term strategic sales base, and strategic account manager for Minster, a US power press company. More recently, he was managing director for Clifton Precision Tools Ltd, which he developed from an automotive tooling company to an engineering company working within the aerospace automotive, rail and white goods industries.
Karl Lindblom has recently taken over as president and CEO for the Hägglunds Drives Group, replacing Per Nordgren who resigned from the position while joining the company's board of directors. Lindblom, who had been president for Bosch Rexroth AB since 2001, has extensive experience of the hydraulic industry including broad international experience from his work within Bosch Rexroth.
Leading engineer, Keith Millard, has been appointed as the 124th President of the global engineering body, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). He is group chairman of membership organisation, Vistage where he provides coaching and mentoring to chief executives throughout the country.He has held several senior posts including Senior Resident Engineer for Ewbank and Partners in Saudi Arabia, Managing Director of Gilbert Associates (Europe). International Business Development Director at Balfour Beatty and Vice President of Parson Group International. Millard replaced out-going President Professor William Banks, a leading UK academic and materials expert, at the changeover at the end of May.
Subrata Guha has joined SIXNET as vice president of international sales. He joins from OXY Systems, where he led sales and business development activities for an emerging social networking based mobile music application. Prior to that, Guha led the business development activities for the products division of Avaya where his group was responsible for the strategic alliances and M&A related activities and previously served as vice president of business development for the IP Cable Group at ADC Telecom, among a series of other senior roles.

Emerson Process Management has appointed Paul Smith as general manager, UK and Ireland, based at the company’s UK offices in Stockport. He takes over from Mark Dutton who, after three years at the helm, has been appointed as vice president general manager of Emerson’s Daniel Measurement and Control division in Europe. Before joining Emerson, Smith was a European business manager for Rockwell Automation MPS Group, having previously been country business leader for Honeywell Process Solutions, UK & Ireland. He has an MBA from the Open University in the UK.
Silchester Control Systems Ltd (SCSL) has announced the retirement of Trevor Jones, founder of the system integration company. He has, however, retained his director’s involvement with the company. As part of the succession planning SCSL appointed Michael Cottle as managing director to run the company in 2008.
Arc Energy Resources has made three new appointments to boost its sales and project management teams. Nick Ellwood joins as sales manager bringing years of experience in the oil and gas industry with companies such as Serck Glocon, Charles Winn and Dublok. He will work with sales director Alan Brown to help maintain Arc Energy’s fifteen years of year-on-year growth. He joins as the company announces a 32% increase in turnover in 2008, topping £5 million for the first time. Peter trained as a draughtsman before becoming general manager of a fabrication company. And Steve has project management experience in the automotive and nuclear industries. Both will be responsible for progressing customers’ projects within Arc Energy’s own weld overlay cladding operation, as well as liaising with external contractors providing specialised machining services.
Airchannel Ltd has appointed Andrew Barraclough to the new role of national sales manager. With a BEng (Hons) in engineering, he has a wealth of industry experience, joining Airchannel from Atlas Copco Compressors Limited, where he was Multibrand divisional manager. In his 12 years at Atlas his responsibilities included the continued development of the Worthington and Mark compressor brands in the UK.
Leuze electronic has appointed Bruce Quilter as regional account manager for the south west of England and south Wales. Quilter’s sales experience includes selling into a broad industry base. He joins Leuze from MeadWestvaco where he sold packaging machinery into the food & beverage market. A career highlight was when as divisional sales manager for a pump manufacturer, he lived in Singapore and looked after customers across Asia-Pacific.
Birmingham-based pressings company Brandauer has appointed Peter Clifton to head up its sales and marketing operation. Previously, he was sales manager at power press manufacturer Aida, where he helped to develop the long term strategic sales base, and strategic account manager for Minster, a US power press company. More recently, he was MD for Clifton Precision Tools Ltd, which he developed from an automotive tooling company to an engineering company working within the aerospace automotive, rail and white goods industries.
Thorite, has appointed Paul Besley to the position of major accounts manager, based at the company’s Sheffield Sales and Service Centre. Smith Flow Control has promoted Mike Fynes to sales and marketing director. Fynes joined SFC in 2002 as sales and marketing manager and has been instrumental in driving the company’s strong sales performance, particularly in China and the US. He has over 26 years’ experience within the interlock industry and within the Halma group of companies, previously holding senior sales and marketing positions for Fortress Interlocks, Castell Safety and Ellis Interlocks in the UK and Castell Inc in the USA.
Hydro International has appointed Chris Day as general manager, Wastewater Division, based in Ely, Cambridgeshire. Day is a mechanical engineer with more than 35 years' experience in the water industry, the last 10 years has been with Hydro International.
Severn Trent Services has announced additions to its UK staff. David Barrett has been named UK business development manager; Alan Pickett, European sales manager, disinfection; and Michael Baran strategy and development analyst. Each will be based in the company’s water purification business headquarters, which is currently being relocated to Tamworth, UK.
Wood Group has appointed Alan Curran as chief executive officer. With more than 25 years of industry experience, Alan was most recently the MD of Lundin Petroleum's UK business where he played a key role in establishing the company's capability to explore for, develop and produce oil gas in the UK. The move follows George Brown's recent appointment as director of operations excellence for production eacilities.
Dr David Brown and Louise Kingham, chief executives of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the Energy Institute (EI), have today been elected as the chair and vice chair of the ETB’s new Professional Panel. The panel is composed of the chief executives of the 36 Professional Engineering Institutions and is to advise the ETB on issues relevant to the development of the engineering profession.
Altra Industrial Motion is adding to its Europe-wide sales force with the appointment of power transmission expert Erich Kraehn. He will be covering the south of Germany and representing brands such as Warner Electric, Huco Dynatork and Stieber Clutch. Kraehn’s experience includes a diploma in precision engineering from Fachhochschule München and over 25 years' working within the industry in both development and sales roles. His past engineering experience includes working as a development engineer for one of the worlds leading electronics companies and for aviation equipment.

Northern Foods has today announced the appointment of John Coppola as group technical innovation director, a new role. He joined the group from Nestle and has a strong background and proven track record in driving technology based NPD within the global food industry. Coppola has held senior technical innovation leadership roles with Unilever Europe, H J Heinz Europe and Diageo. His most recent position was as innovation acceleration director with Nestle, Vevey; working across the US, South America and latterly Europe.
LyondellBasell Industries has appointed Ed Dineen as chief operating officer. Most recently president of LyondellBasell's Chemicals division, Dineen has served with the company and its predecessors for more than 30 years. Past positions with predecessor Lyondell Chemical include senior VP, Chemicals and Polymers, and senior VP, Urethanes and Performance Chemicals. Dineen began his career with predecessor ARCO Chemical in 1977. He advanced through a number of positions in the engineering, environmental, health & safety, manufacturing, business management and financial functions. In 1993, he was appointed VP, Planning and Control for ARCO Chemical European Operations, located in Maidenhead, UK. In 1995, he became VP, Worldwide Co-Products and Raw Materials.
Tube bending machine builder Unison has appointed Steve Haddrell as key accounts manager. Hee has a background in technical sales, with extensive knowledge of the machine tool market. For several years, he was UK sales manager for the Optonics division of Mazak, the world¹s largest supplier of CNC lathes, machining centres, industrial laser systems and flexible manufacturing systems. He has also worked in senior sales management and technical support roles for a number of other prestigious machine tool manufacturers, including Kerf Developments and the 600 Group.
Jillian Bundy, manager for the Dounreay Training and Development Department, has received the Cogent SSC Award for Outstanding Leadership in Skills. The award was one of several handed out by the National Skills Academy for Nuclear and Cogent Sector Skills Council. It recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to ensuring that the UK nuclear sector has the skills it needs to continue to be a world-class industry.
Desmond King, CEO of Australian oil refining and marketing company, Caltex has been confirmed as IChemE’s deputy president 2009-10. He will officially assume the post at the Institution’s AGM in May and succeed current deputy president, Ian Shott as IChemE President in 2010. King has a degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College London, UK and a PhD from Cambridge University, UK. He has spent much of his career at Chevron, working his way from process researcher via refinery manager to key roles in technology, marketing and strategic planning. King has been CEO of the Chevron subsidiary, Caltex since 2006, prior to which he was general manager of Chevron’s Pembroke refinery in Wales.
DavyMarkham has honoured Steve Brooks for his outstanding service at the company which he joined as a 15-year-old apprentice welder back in 1968. More than forty years on, Steve is still working for heavy engineering company DavyMarkham at the same Darnall Works: now a qualified chargehand/welder, he is responsible for all practical aspects of steel fabrication. During his career with DavyMarkham, Brooks spent a year in Dover working on the ground-breaking Channel Tunnel boring machine, was seconded to hydroelectric plants in Argentina, the Sudan, Loch Ness and Wales, and was engaged on the iconic Thames Barrier project. He also operated at numerous coal mines in the UK, as well as a cement quarry in Ireland. MD Kevin Parkin said: “ “We value members of staff like Steve very highly and, now that we have introduced our apprentice training scheme, we can be sure that his knowledge and skills, as well as those of other long-standing employees, will be successfully passed on to a new generation of engineers and craftsmen.”
Master Lock Europe has announced that Tim Hughes has been named safety and commercial sales manager. He brings 23 years' experience in process and industrial machine safety with focus on oil & gas and manufacturing industries. Hughes has previously been associated with companies including Castell Safety International Ltd, Smith Flow Control Ltd and Halma Asita Pte Ltd in Singapore. He is a technician member of IOSH, holder of NEBOSH general certificate and is currently completing an MBA with University of Leicester.
Paul Kajtar has joined CSO Technik as national sales manager heading up CSO's UK sales and proposals team. He has significant experience in the water sector having spent 18 years with Wallace and Tiernan, now Chemfeed Ltd, a Siemens Water Technologies business. During the last six years his focus has been in the UK municipal utility market and he will use his experience to further develop the growth of CSO in the UK water and industrial sectors.
S+S Inspection, a sorting and metal detection systems company, has appointed Christophe Potstada as marketing executive. Potstada is fluent in English and German and brings a BA in business administration and an MA in marketing communications to support the company’s activities in the UK and the US and liaise with its parent company in Germany.
Autodesk Inc. has appointed Pete Baxter as senior director, Northern Europe region, which comprises the UK and Ireland; Benelux and the Nordics. Baxter has worked for Autodesk for just over four years, having joined as architecture, engineering & construction (AEC) sales director for Northern Europe. More recently, he added the leadership of Autodesk’s Platform, Geospatial and Plant and Media and Entertainment businesses to his responsibilities across the region. An architect by profession, Baxter also has inside knowledge of the design software sector having previously worked for Bentley Systems, as international channel director; Parametric Technology Corporation; and Revit, prior to its acquisition by Autodesk. He holds a BA (Hons), a post-graduate bachelor of architecture (BArch) and a master of civic design (MA) from the University of Liverpool.
Monitran has appointed James Holland as engineering coordinator. Holland was previously a senior electronics engineer with Ultra Electronics, which specialises in the design, manufacture and support of electronic and electromechanical systems, sub-systems and products for defence, security and aerospace applications worldwide. His experience includes designing fit-for-purpose products for use in harsh environments.
Davy Markham has made three appointments to strengthen its administrative team. John Moseby has been recruited as training controller, to manage the firm’s growing apprenticeship programme; Chris Abraham has been appointed assistant quality manager, working initially on the $20m IAMGOLD mine winding contract; while Allan Holdgate joins as a senior estimator. Moseby was previously an independent training consultant and a health & safety Manager with a stainless steel company. He worked for DavyMarkham earlier, first as an apprentice machinist and later as a machine shop foreman. Abraham was formerly an engineer with an ISO9001 accredited machining and fabrication company and, before that, QC inspector with a metal components manufacturer. Holdgate was latterly a subcontract estimator with a major steel producer, and additionally has production planning, technical sales and works management experience, having initially been apprenticed as a toolmaker.
Widnes-based Denca Controls has appointed Tony Murray as technical services manager. He was previously employed as site electrical engineer, with responsibility for calibration, at Colgate Palmolive, Trafford Park. He will use his considerable expertise surrounding manufacturing systems, HV distribution networks, control and automation technologies and calibration of critical instrumentation to further enhance the technical services that Denca is able to offer its customers.

Royal Haskoning has appointed Geoff Bothamley as business services director for oil and gas. With 20 years’ experience in the industry, Bothamley has provided strategic consultancy to several major businesses including British Gas and BG Group. In his role as a business development manager in the oil and gas division at Foster Wheeler, he travelled to Australia to advise on an offshore liquefied LNG production project. He brings with him expertise gained from his previous work with modular plant design and pipeline network management.
Autodesk Inc. has appointed Mark Paraskeva as its new vice president of Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMIA) regions, which represents around 40% ($1 billion) of the company’s total global revenues. Previously vice president of the company’s northern Europe region, Paraskeva has over 25 years’ experience in industry with management roles spanning marketing, customer support, technical development and sales, and holds a first class honours degree in electronic engineering from Southampton University.
Pipe connector and flow control products company SMX International has appointed Bernie Newmarch as UK representative. Newmarch joins SMX with 30 years’ experience covering all aspects of the piping and connection sector. He previously represented international manufacturers of valves and piping equipment, winning significant contracts with engineering contractors and end users.
SMX International has appointed Gary Walford and Marc Robinson to head up its sales activities in Europe, and the Middle East and Asia Pacific, respectively. Both Walford and Robinson join SMX from Vector International. They bring extensive experience of the pressure connection and sealing market, and have a strong background in sales within this sector in the European and Middle East markets.
Intellitect Water (UK) has appointed David Miles, a specialist in disinfection and drinking water quality, to spearhead the company's business development activity. With a career that started in mechanical engineering, Miles has worked for a number of major companies including Thames Water. His roles have included business development at a senior level. Most recently he was a director of a marketing business with interests in both the UK and Asia.
BJ Services Co. has appointed Ryan Elder as business development manager–Middle East and Russia for its tubular and completion assembly service line. Before joining BJ Services in l989, Elder worked as a technician for a tubular services company in Aberdeen. Since then, he has worked offshore in the UK and various overseas locations. Prior to this promotion, Elder worked in sales and operations for Tubular Services in Aberdeen.
Dr Roberto Lopez-Garcia has joined the service department of Quantitech, a Milton Keynes-based supplier of environmental monitoring instrumentation. He holds a PhD in coordination chemistry (metal complexes) from the University of Nottingham. Lopez-Garcia has worked in service, training, R&D in the field of mercury analysis and more recently, worked for a US environmental consultancy, specialising in stack emissions and contaminated land.
Sheffield Forgemasters International Ltd (SFIL) has brought in an experienced industry health and safety specialist to oversee operations for its subsidiary, Vulcan Engineering Services. Ian Frost brings 14 years of experience to take the role of Health and Safety manager at the company. He previously progressed to health and safety manager with neighbouring company, Firth Rixon, having originally trained as a British Coal engineer and brings skills gained through a diversity of engineering projects.
Security systems company Adams Rite Europe Ltd has announced a series of new management appointments. Rob Read, operations manager, is joined in the management team by commercial manager, Eryl Jones, sales manager, Steve Rigby and national accounts manager, Adam Brand.
Hayward Tyler Ltd, a manufacturer of pumps and motors for the oil and gas industries, has appointed Alan Venters as business development manager (offshore), based in Aberdeen. He brings experience from all aspects of the offshore industry, having worked in the sector for more than 22 years. Prior to joining Hayward Tyler, Venters worked for eight years at a leading valve manufacturer based in Scotland, where he developed new business in global offshore markets.
DavyMarkham’s MD Kevin Parkin has recently been appointed chairman of the British Metallurgical Plant Constructors’ Association, which represents companies at the forefront of the metals processing industry. Over his two-year term, he will represent the UK metallurgical equipment and services sector in dealings with legislators, overseas trade bodies and its counterparts in other industries. He will also seek to boost membership of the association and give it a stronger voice both nationally and internationally.
Swagelok Co. has appointed Deric Wallace to regional director, Europe. Wallace joined the company in 1996 as a project manager. In 1999, he was appointed manager of the European Technical Center at Swagelok AG in Switzerland. In 2003, he was promoted to business development manager for the European region and later became EMEA regional manager. He attended the University of Akron and the University of Regensburg, Germany and holds a BSc degree in international business and German.
