Solvay Solexis notes mass flow measurement gains

Alessandria, Italy - Solvay Solexis, part of the Solvay Group, has reported significant gains through the use of Emerson’s Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters throughout its Spinetta Marengo plant, which manufactures fluorinated polymers.
The Spinetta Marengo site has over 200 flow measurement points, and over 75% of these applications have Micro Motion Coriolis meters installed. The devices have been implemented in critical areas and extreme conditions, including cryogenic applications and the dosing of fluoridric acids.
The Italian operation's use of Micro Motion flowmeters include the problem-free application of D Series Tefzel coated meters on the agressive hydrofluoric acid lines for over four years. Micro Motion ELITE sensors, meanwhile, are used as a mass flow reference for on-site calibration of other mass flow meters.
Compared with similar products installed under the same operating conditions, the Micro Motion results showed a reduction in commissioning costs of 75%, reduced process deviation, cut the risk of producing off-spec product by 90% and reduced maintenance costs by 95%. These factors, said Emerson, enabled an overall economic improvement of 1% at the plant.
“We have evaluated Coriolis instruments from six manufacturers, but only Emerson’s Micro Motion product provides a complete range of benefits,” said Giuliano Caramaschi, instrument manager at the Solvay Solexis Spinetta Marengo site, commenting in an Emerson press release.
