Compatible CAN and Ethernet gateways
1 Apr 2015
Deutschmann Automation has unveiled two optimally harmonised gateways for connecting CAN and Ethernet networks with all market-standard industry protocols.
UNIGATE EL gateways connect standard Ethernet devices with Modbus TCP, Profibus DP, MPI, DeviceNet, CANopen, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET, thereby facilitating the communication via Ethernet TCP/IP und UDP between the control / office level and the shop floor.
Meanwhile, a second Ethernet interface facilitates starting up.
Technical staff can use it to gain direct access to the configuration of the connected gateways.
Moreover, the extra interface provides an additional regular bus port. UNIGATE CM CAN and CANopen gateways feature an on-board CAN Master.
Therefore, they can both be used to connect CAN and CANopen networks with other protocols and to integrate CAN devices into any fieldbus or Ethernet environment.
Both gateway types are optionally fitted with eight integrated, freely configurable I/Os that can be defined as input or output and assigned an individual switching logic.
The integrated I/Os are configured via the same script that handles the protocol conversion and which can be programmed without special programming or fieldbus knowledge simply by means of Deutschmann’s free-of-charge Protocol Developer tool.
The script is one of the special advantages of Deutschmann’s UNIGATE products – it converts the terminal device protocols and can be used to emulate complex protocols and to buffer and process data.
Furthermore, it supports integration of customer-specific commands, linking of functions to time or event-based triggers, and visualisation of all data and statuses in the bus.
Deutschmann offers to fit UNIGATE CM and EL devices – just like all UNIGATE products – with OEM brand labels.
